Should Question

Should the U.S. government create a national renewable portfolio standard ensuring that at least 25-percent of U.S. electricity comes from renewable sources by 2025?

In his inauguration speech, President Obama addressed the issue of finding alternative energy sources. Whether we get our electricity from renewable or nonrenewable sources is an important issue that demands a solution. How we will accomplish this daunting task, and what renewable sources we will use? On the website www.whitehouse.gov, President Obama outlines his goal of creating a federal mandate ensuring that U.S. utilities get 25% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025. A national Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) comes with a number of complex benefits and problems. It will be very challenging to meet a 25% RPS by 2025; however, if we work together, perhaps it is possible to reach this far-reaching goal.
